Bought this ebike 2 years ago to get into cycling. Worked a treat and have recently used the battery less and less. I have upgraded to a lighter bike. The weight is advertised as 27kg. Most of this is the battery. You will need an ebike bike rack if you are planning on taking it anywhere by car.
The advertised range is 130 miles / 209 kilometres (this is using eco mode). This is about right but it very much depends on how you cycle and how many hills you go up with full electric assist. There are four levels of assistance (Eco, Tour, Sport and Turbo). With Turbo you can go up a very steep hill with virtually zero effort. This bike has done the Margham Park in Port Talbot Macmillan Dragon ride twice (62 miles) with 2/3rds of the battery remaining.
The hub gear has 8 gears. Easy to switch between. Changing gear is done without pedalling. This is very handy if you stop midway up a hill and need a low gear to get going again. I’ve done about 2,000 miles on this bike. The Raleigh Centros Hub e-bike uses a Bosch 625wh Power Tube battery which is known for its durability and long lifespan. While Raleigh don’t specify an exact number of charging cycles on their site, Bosch typically rate their ebike battery for around 500 to 1000 full charge cycles before any noticeable capacity loss.
I’ve had the bike for just over 2 years. If I had to guess how many times I’d charged the bike here goes … I charged it weekly for the first year and probably less than monthly since then. The bike was bought in May 2023 (52 weeks + 15 months. So maybe 67 estimated charges done). In conclusion I reckon there are loads and loads of cycles left on this battery. At least 430!
The actual bike is tough. It can easily go over all sorts of terrain (i.e., gravel, potholes, grass). It has shock absorbers in the front wheels. The seat is also very comfortable. There are a few scratches which shows how much the bike has been used but nothing noteworthy.
This is a 52cm frame (size medium). This is recommended for people 5 foot 7 inches to 5 foot 10. I’m 5 foot 6 and this size felt right when I tried it out and subsequently bought it. This bike was £2,800 new (reduced from £3,200 at the time).
There is a range extender you can buy but it’s quite expensive and I really don’t think it’s needed. I used this bike for a whole week in the Cotswolds cycling about 20 miles a day for 6 days. It still had battery left.
There’s good tread left in the tyres. It was serviced last year. I had to put a new brake pad on the front tyre this year (which is still bedding in). The front and rear light is powered by the battery. These lights are enough to cycle in the dark. The pannier is a solid and useful addition that came with the bike.
